What is gum recession?
Gum recession is the loss of gingival tissues along the gum line. It can occur from aging, aggressive tooth brushing, and genetics, but the leading cause is periodontal disease. When left to thrive, gum disease attacks the gum-supporting ligaments, causing the gums to pull away from the teeth. Gum recession causes more than aesthetic concerns. The exposed roots cause tooth sensitivity and increase the risk of decay and periodontal disease.

This patient walked into our office with receding gums on the upper jawline. We used the Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique to treat this condition, and the patient walked out with healthy-looking and ‘normal’ teeth and gums.
Gaps were visible between the lower teeth of this patient, as the supporting gums had receded and the tooth roots had become exposed. We repaired the gumline with the Chao technique, and the patient regained his smile.
Gum recession was a serious problem for this patient, whose upper jaw tooth roots had become exposed. We closed these exposed roots with the Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique, and the patient was extremely satisfied with the result.
