And it doesn’t stop there. We also offer laser dentistry for our Northridge, California patients to deliver outstanding outcomes in cosmetic, surgery, and periodontal treatments.

What types of lasers do you use for soft and hard tissue treatments?

Dr. Lau uses soft and hard tissue lasers, which are highly effective for various dental procedures. Soft tissue lasers are used to treat gums, remove excess tissue, and manage conditions like gum disease. Hard tissue lasers are designed for precise tooth treatment, such as reshaping or removing decay. These lasers are more accurate and less invasive than traditional methods, often reducing recovery time and discomfort. Lasers can also help with gum contouring and teeth whitening, providing versatile and effective treatment options that enhance oral health and aesthetics.

How does laser dentistry compare to traditional methods for hard tissue treatments?

Laser dentistry for hard tissue, such as tooth enamel or bone, is less invasive than traditional drills. It removes decayed tissue with precision, preserving more of the healthy tooth. Lasers also tend to cause less vibration, noise, and discomfort, so patients often report a more comfortable experience. In some cases, anesthesia may not even be necessary. Laser treatment also reduces the risk of infection by sterilizing the treated area as it works, providing a cleaner and more efficient approach to dental procedures.

Can laser dentistry help with sensitivity during treatment?

Yes! One of the major benefits of laser dentistry is its ability to reduce post-treatment sensitivity. The laser helps seal nerve endings and blood vessels during procedures, leading to less irritation and a faster healing time. This makes laser treatments ideal for those who experience tooth sensitivity after traditional dental work.

How does laser dentistry affect healing times?

Laser dentistry promotes faster healing times compared to traditional methods. Since the laser cauterizes tissue as it works, there is less bleeding, swelling, and discomfort after the procedure. This speeds up recovery, and many patients find they can return to their normal activities quickly after treatment.

Are there any special aftercare instructions following a laser dental procedure?

While laser procedures generally require less aftercare than traditional treatments, Dr. Lau will provide specific instructions based on the type of treatment. You’ll be advised to avoid hot or cold foods and drinks for a short period and maintain a gentle oral hygiene routine.

Is laser dentistry safe for everyone, including children or those with medical conditions?

Laser dentistry is generally safe for most patients, including children and those with certain medical conditions. However, as with any dental treatment, Dr. Lau will assess your health and discuss your medical history to ensure the laser procedure is right for you. Lasers can be particularly beneficial for children due to their precision and minimally invasive nature. For patients with certain medical conditions, such as heart disease or diabetes, laser treatments may be recommended as a safer alternative to traditional procedures due to reduced risks of infection and quicker healing.

How does laser dentistry reduce the need for sutures?

Laser dentistry often eliminates the need for sutures by promoting natural tissue coagulation. When lasers are used, they cauterize the tissue as they work, sealing blood vessels and reducing bleeding. This minimizes discomfort, speeds up the healing process, and avoids the need for stitches in many cases. Additionally, the precision of lasers allows for more accurate cuts and less tissue disruption, further enhancing the healing process and providing a more comfortable patient experience.
