Replace most or all of your teeth the same day and enjoy your TeethExpress® implant dentures for life!
While Mid-Valley Dental Care never wants you to lose any of your natural teeth, there have never been more and better options for individuals across the Northridge, California, area to rebuild their broken smiles. Drs. Terence Lau, Casey Lau, and Kayla Lau are pleased to offer TeethExpress® by BioHorizons as a premium implants system. To better understand this innovative solution, it helps first to understand the traditional method to replace many (or all) teeth and dental implants in general.
What has been the traditional way to replace lots of teeth?
Conventional removable dentures are appliances that “sit” on the gums and tissues in the mouth. Due to this design, they promote and even hasten the effects of devastating bone loss. When the supportive bone is not stimulated by teeth “rooted” in the jaw, this tissue shrinks or resorbs. This process can alter the shape of your face and prematurely age you. Plus, it can cause many functional challenges that interfere with your diet, quality of life, and overall health.
And what are dental implants?
Implants are cylindrical-shaped posts inserted in the jawbone. They are made from materials that are designed to naturally and safely join with the surrounding bone in the jaw. Once this process of osseointegration has occurred, the replacement teeth are connected to the implants. In turn, the implants function as tooth roots to stabilize the prosthetic. A single implant may support one dental crown. A few implants may retain several replacement teeth in a dental bridge. Lastly, a minimal number of four to six implants may hold an entire arch of teeth in place as an upper or lower denture. Since the prosthetic teeth are connected to the jaw through the implants, the bone gets the stimulation it needs to be healthy and strong. Bone loss is avoided or halted.
And what makes TeethExpress® so innovative?
TeethExpress® uses four, five, or six dental implants to support an upper or lower denture. It can even replace a full set of teeth—with both upper and lower dentures. The “Express” part comes into play because it provides an immediate solution. Yes, you can arrive at our office with a mouth full of gaps and leave with a beautiful smile the same day.
How does TeethExpress® work?
TeethExpress® is so well-tolerated that it can be performed under local anesthesia. However, if you prefer to sleep through the process, we can arrange that, too! So, sedation dentistry is available. Inserting the implants and applying your dentures involves minimal disruption to your routine. Many of our patients at Mid-Valley Dental Care return to work within one to two day(s) of their implant procedure. The surgery to position your implants and to place your new teeth only takes a few hours. It is well-tolerated afterward, with little more than a prescription medication to ease minor discomfort, taken as needed.
How long will my new teeth last?
If cared for properly, they can last the rest of your life. Many of the same implants placed 40 years ago are still in use and serve patients well today. Since the bone in your jaw retains its strength, the shape of your face is also retained. In turn, your denture continues to fit well. With conventional dentures, changes to the tissues in the jaw brought on by bone loss can result in the denture no longer conforming well in your mouth. Our Northridge, CA, doctors must periodically repair, rebase, and reline your dentures to maintain a good fit. In fact, on average, it’s recommended that dentures be replaced every five years! So, TeethExpress® is a smart investment in your smile and overall self.
