Porcelain dental veneers can dramatically improve your smile, correcting the alignment, spacing, and coloring of your teeth. Our dentists offer this treatment to help you achieve a long-lasting, beautiful smile. Please call Mid-Valley Dental Care at 818-886-3500 to make your appointment with Drs. Terence Lau and Casey Lau and learn more about porcelain dental veneers in Northridge, California.
Dental veneers are thin shells of porcelain or composite resin that are bonded to the front teeth to enhance a few teeth or transform the overall appearance of your smile. Dental veneers also provide greater strength and resilience for weakened teeth. They are less intrusive than a dental crown or braces, and can correct a variety of cosmetic concerns, including:
• Chipped or fractured teeth
• Stains, discoloration, and yellowing
• Gaps or uneven spacing between teeth
• Too short teeth
• Slightly crooked teeth
• Misshapen teeth
A dental veneer is typically placed in two separate visits to Mid-Valley Dental Care. During the first visit, our dentists will help you select the right shade for your veneer. Most patients choose the shade that is closest to their natural tooth color; though if you are treating multiple teeth with veneers, you can go a shade or two lighter for a whiter smile. We will clean the tooth before removing a small amount of enamel from the front surface of the tooth to provide space for the veneer. An impression of your smile will be made, and then a temporary veneer is placed on the tooth.
Once the permanent veneer is ready, we will invite you back to the office for another teeth cleaning. The veneer is also cleaned before being etched and coated in dental cement. It is applied very carefully to the tooth for a proper fit, and is then trimmed and polished to match the surrounding teeth. The whole process is virtually painless, though anesthetic is available for patients who have sensitive teeth.
Porcelain vs. Composite Veneers
The two main materials for a dental veneer are composite resin and porcelain. While composite resin tends to be more affordable, porcelain is more stain resistant and longer lasting. When you visit our office, our dentists will help you determine which material best fits your dental needs.
After Care of Veneers
Dental veneers can last from 10 to 20 years with proper care. They should be brushed and flossed the same as a normal tooth with a non-abrasive toothpaste. Limiting your consumption of staining substances, such as coffee and tobacco, will help your veneer stay bright longer.
