Sleep Dentistry

The Power of Sleep Dentistry to Overcome the Fear of Dentistry

In the past, patients who were fearful and apprehensive about going to the dentist could only play the avoidance game and allow the ravages of dental neglect to occur! NOW you can have all of your dental procedures done and you teeth replaced or restored to their natural function...all while asleep!

SLEEP DENTISTRY IS IDEAL FOR:
  • Fearful / Dental phobic patients
  • Patients who historically have found it difficult “to get numb”
  • Patients with hyperactive gag reflex
  • Uncooperative patients (Children)
  • Handicapped and medically compromised patients
  • Patients who wish to have extensive treatment performed in a single visit

At Mid-Valley Dental Care we offer all phases of sleep dentistry and conscious sedation including:
  • Nitrous Oxide
  • Oral Sedation
  • I.V. Sedation

Nitrous Oxide
Nitrous oxide (laughing gas), the oldest dental sedative, dating back to the 1800’s is safe and effective and always available at Mid-Valley Dental Care! It is a gas that is carefully and precisely mixed with oxygen and delivered though a nasal mask to produce a relaxing euphoria that is ideal for sort appointments and moderate apprehension. Benefits:
  • Produces a sense of relaxation
  • Light pain relief also produced
  • Completely purged from system with oxygen administration so patient can drive home
  • Dentist can control rate and level of sedation
  • Safest form of dental sedation

Oral Sedation
Oral sedation can produce profound and safe in office sedation for more significant or complex dental procedures. Taken in pill form prior to the start of dental treatment, this sedative technique is well tolerated by patients. With appropriate monitoring, oral sedation is extremely safe and effective. Benefits:
  • Produces an extremely relaxed state
  • Deeper sedation than Nitrous Oxide alone
  • Shorter recovery time than I.V. sedation
  • Many patients have no memory of procedures performed
  • Less costly than I.V. sedation

I.V. Sedation
I.V. sedation is the most advanced sedative technique for the comprehensive control of pain and anxiety and pain in dentistry. At Mid-Valley Dental Care, we have a Board Certified Dentist Anesthesiologist on our team to provide the ultimate in dental anesthesia and monitoring for our patients’ comfort and safety. Benefits:
  • I.V. sedation produces the most profound anesthesia available in dentistry
  • Dental anesthesiologist is able to precisely control the amount of sedation required
  • In most cases, the patient does not remember the procedure
  • Superior pain control
  • Precise monitoring to insure safety

At Mid-Valley Dental Care, no matter which route of sedation you choose, sedation dentistry allows you to be sedated just enough to be pain free and unaware of the treatment, as if you were relaxing. So if you have sensitive teeth, a fear of dentists, have a bad gag reflex, hate needles, or have limited time to spend on dental care at the dentist, Sedation during dentistry procedures can help you.
